Shirley Dan Hayes was born October 16, 1931 in Westmoreland County, VA to the late Daniel and late Lessie (Jackson) Hayes. On Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA; he departed this life and went home to be with the Lord after a very brief illness. He was one of seven children. Four siblings preceded him to glory. He was affectionally called "Chicken" by all who knew and loved him. He didn't have a lot of formal education but the Lord blessed "Chicken" to know what he had to get by in life for his 78 years here on earth. He joined the New Monrovia Baptist Church at an early age. "Chicken" worked at various labor jobs throughout his lifetime. "Chicken" leaves to cherish his memory, one brother Frank Hayes and one sister Rosa Hayes of Colonial Beach, VA, one brother-in-law Gilbert Morris of King George, VA. There are also two who he has always looked at, helped raise and loved as his very own daughters: Rachael Lucas of Washington DC and Lessia "Peaches" Hill of Forrestville, MD; three special nieces Andrea Hayes, Dorether Hayes, Ella Hayes of Colonial Beach, VA; two special great-nieces Jaleesa Hayes and Shavanta' Hayes of Colonial Beach, VA; a special cousin and dear friend Ray McDowney and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
